Ranthambore National Park is a dry deciduous forest located in Rajasthan and it is one of the significant Tiger Reserves in India.
Initially this park was established as a Game Sanctuary in 1955. Then its name was Madhopur Game Sanctuary. Later in 1973, it was acknowledged as a Tiger Reserve and declared as a National Park in 1980. It was named Ranthambore National Park in the name of historic Ranthambore Fort in Rajasthan. Currently the total area of this National Park is 13.34 Square Kilometre. There are many lakes in Ranthambore National Park and grass land as well. Unfortunately, as the human population increased surrounding the park, the park environment got threatened. But Government responded to it well and provisionally solved it soon.
Wildlife in Ranthambore : Ranthambore National Park possesses a great population of tigers and it's a great safari site for zoologists, wildlife enthusiasts and photographers. Besides tigers, there are Indian leopard, sambar, stripped hyena, wild boar, gray langur, chital etc in Ranthambore.
Best season to visit : April to June
Best possible route : Ranthambore National Park is 1564.2 km from Kolkata via Asian Highway 1. By flight and rail, Jaipur is well connected to other major cities in India including Kolkata, then by train one may reach Sawai Madhopur aka the Gateway to Ranthambore.
