Betla National Park on the Chhota Nagpur plateau in Jharkhand is one of the first Tiger reserves in India. The total area of the park is 1315 Square Kilometre including Palamu Tiger Reserve and Mahuadar Wolf Sanctuary.

Wildlife in Betla :  The wildlife in Betla National Park possesses a wide variety of creatures like panther, elephant, wolf, hyena, gaur, langur, deer, nilgai, porcupine, pangolin, antelope etc. and various birds like hornbill, quail, wagtail, harial, dove, black ibis, red jungle fowl etc. including water birds like snipe, cotton teal, whistling etc. are also seen here as well.

Best season to visit :  November to April. May is very hot, but still it's the best time to spot panthers.

Best possible route :  Betla National Park is 568.4 km from Kolkata via National Highway 19. By flight, one may reach Ranchi or Gaya and then by car, Betla is easy to reach. Barwadih is the nearest rail station to Betla, reaching there by train, taking car/bus to Betla is a good option.
