Sunderban

Sunderbans is the home to numerous wildlife species and uncountable flora & fauna. The dense forest of semi-submerged mangroves, serene canals, meandering waterways, and pristine natural beauty has made it a popular tourist destination in West Bengal. Plus, this forest is the land of the Royal Bengal Tigers and in the year 1966, Sunderbans has been declared as a wildlife sanctuary.

In 1973, the core area of Sundarban was created as Sundarban Tiger Reserve. In 1977, it was created as a wild life sanctuary. In 1978, it constituted as Reserve forest . The current core area was established as a National park on 4th May,1984. Recognising the region and it's unique biodiversity, this national park was listed as a World Heritage Site in 1985. Later, the entire Sundarban was declared as a Bio Sphere Reserve in 1989.

• Biodiversity in The Sunderbans - The 2585 square kilometers Sunderbans Tiger Reserve is the largest coastal wetland in the world. Not only that but also, it consists of rich biodiversity that is truly incredible. The biodiversity includes over 250 fishes, 300 rare birds, 350 species of vascular plants, and a plethora of reptiles, mammals, amphibians, various species of fungi, bacteria, zooplankton, phytoplankton, and many more. The delta provides shelter to many endangered animals, such as Pelochelys Bibroni, Batagur Baska, Chelonia Mydas, and also the famous Royal Bengal Tiger.
